Fruit and veg don’t have to be fresh to count towards your 5-a-day


This spiced pear porridge is made with store cupboard Ingredients: porridge oats, long life milk, tinned pears and mixed spice.

 I have added a dollop of fresh yoghurt (not from the store cupboard) to give a protein and calcium boost. But most of all to help it cool down for hungry tummies. 

No need to add sugar or honey as the mixed spice tricks the taste buds into thinking it’s been sweetened and of course the pears bring a natural sweetness too. 

It’s best to buy fruit in juice rather than syrup but if you do have it in syrup just give it a rinse under the tap before serving to reduce the free sugars. 

This dish is suitable from 6 months.
