Eating for your gut bacteria is all about variety

Author:

Lunch yesterday – blue cheese, pomegranate, olive & balsamic tomato salad turns out to be a great combo! Since reading the research into feeding your gut bacteria I’ve been making an extra effort to include more variety of plant based components into my week. The salad we’re growing in the poly tunnel is coming in really handy as each leave variety counts as a separate plant based component. The recommendations are to aim for at least 30 different plant based components so this lunch is a great addition giving me 8. If I have this same lunch every day though although a good source of fibre, vitamins and minerals it will still only count as 8/30. Another good trick to give your numbers a boost is a sprinkle if mixed seeds eg on a salad, into a stir fry or into a bowl of porridge.
