Pink tomatoes!

Author:

Do you know what type of tomato these are? 🍅

They’re on the left of the plate and I’ve not used a filter so that you can see their true colour (the red and yellow ones are there so that you can see how pink these tomatoes are).

I’ve never seen pink tomatoes before and these have come from a plant that grew as a weed this year..! I mixed the compost from last years seed trays into this years and several tomatoes have grown in amongst this years seeds (other plants).

Fruits and vegetables  taste best when they’re in season and none more so than tomatoes. Tomatoes are so delicious at this time of year.

Tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene, an antioxidant which has been linked to reducing heart disease and they’re also a good source of other antioxidants including vitamins A and C. Antioxidants are thought to help protect against cancer and heart disease as they counteract damage caused by freeradicals. Tomatoes are part of the healthy Mediterranean diet which has been linked to improved longer term health outcomes including reduced chances of heart disease.

These tomatoes will become tomorrow’s snack – how many 10 month olds have had pink tomatoes?! 😋
