Omega 3s & the BBQ

The beautiful colours of last nights impromptu BBQ.

Some great long chain omega 3 fats from the mackerel on this yummy meal. This type of fat has been shown to be anti inflammatory and really good for our health, particularly heart health and it’s something that most of us don’t get enough in the UK. These fats are important for healthy brain development too so great for babies and children. It’s recommended that we all eat two portions of fish a week, one of which is oily like this mackerel.

Pictured: Fresh mackerel (caught in the morning), a local sausage, new potatoes, purple kale, homemade coleslaw (red cabbage, onion & carrot) and quick ratatouille (onion, garlic (both pre chopped from the freezer) courgette, chopped fresh cherry tomatoes, red pepper & green beans). Watermelon to follow.

A BBQ doesn’t need to be unhealthy and that way it can be a guilt free regular event 😍 The wee ones could enjoy everything other than the coleslaw (kale chopped finely).
